KŌJIN — Hōjicha, the spirit of the hearth

Kōjin, the Japanese god of fire, guards the hearth. And our Hōjicha perfectly captures his spirit. Hot roasted, it delights with a caramel-nutty taste and a delicate, smoky aroma. Almost caffeine-free, mild and soothing. An ideal tea for any time of day. Kōjin would surely approve!

Hōjicha is a tea that surprises. It doesn't resemble typical green tea. Its taste is roasted, caramel, slightly smoky, and the infusion's color is darker, leaning towards shades of brown. It's a unique beverage that warms and soothes the senses, while containing a minimal amount of caffeine, making it enjoyable at any time of day. Hōjicha originated in Kyoto, with its history dating back to the 1920s. It was created as a way to utilize older leaves and stems, which were roasted to achieve a new, unique flavor profile. Today, it is one of the most prized Japanese teas, especially on colder days when its warming character becomes invaluable.
